As part of our ongoing charity work, BLPH has adopted Chessie, the lost manatee. With our annual donation, we support and help fund manatee rescue, rehabilitation, and research efforts in the U.S. and the Wider Caribbean. We also help support manatee education and public awareness projects. In addition, we help protect manatees and their habitat through advocacy and legal action. You can also become a grass roots activist for manatees and volunteer in your community-even if you're up in the midwest!
In 1998, approximately 87% of all Adopt-A-Manatee funds went directly to manatee programs, with about 13% going to administrative and fundraising costs.

BLPH members generously donate items and funds at our monthly Phlockings for our four legged PHriends. The Almost Home Humane Society is a publicly non-profit organization which is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, relief of suffering among animals and the extension of humane education.
Some needed items are (used items are as welcome as new!):
· Kitten and Puppy Food (Food should not be red or beef flavored!)
· Dog and Cat Food (Food should not be red or beef flavored!)

The Alzheimer's Association of Central Indiana is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer's disease through comprehensive services, educational programs, advocacy and support of research.
In September, BLPH participates in The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, at the Butler University campus, in Indianapolis. Memory Walk is the largest fundraising event for the Alzheimer's Association of Central Indiana. It is a fun-filled event that includes music, entertainment, food, and sponsor booths. The goal for the Memory Walk is to raise funds to support the local programs and services offered to caregivers and individuals touched by Alzheimer’s disease. For more information on Memory Walk, email Dan Kelly.
Food Donations
Each month, at the phlockings, members bring canned goods to help out
local food pantries. We make donations to the following:
· Beth Fraley Memorial Food Pantry
· The Hannah Center Food Pantry
In April, BLPH participates in the
March of Dimes WalkAmerica, which begins at the Tippecanoe County
Fairgrounds, Lafayette, IN. WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes biggest
fundraiser. It supports pioneering research and innovative programs that save
babies born prematurely or with birth defects. Since its beginning in 1970,
WalkAmerica has raised more than $1 billion to help give babies a fighting
chance. BLPH has surpassed our goal for raising money for the event each year
we have participated.
Adopt A Highway
BLPH members have been doing their part to
help the local environment and help clean up a section of this "Big Round Ball".
Our section of highway is US 52 W, from Marker 40, near the Elks Club, heading west to Montmorenci, to Marker 38. It is a 2 mile section of highway.
We are requested to clean our 'little piece
of paradise' at least 4 times a year. Check out the
"BLPH
Calendar" for highway clean-up dates
